ClayLarking

Porcelain bottles with wild clay on belly

Larking -  to enjoy oneself by behaving in a playful and mischievous way.

The British have a term, mudlarking, which is used to describe the activity of searching the mud for objects of value or of interest. It was used originally as a derogatory term for those who made their livelihood off the scavenges they cobbled from muddy shores. That however is no longer the case, to mudlark is considered such a fine past time, it has jumped the river banks and now one may woodlark, fieldlark, streetlark and in my case claylark.

Porcelain bottles from artist molds are manipulated and bisque fired to cone 04 (1915°F), they are then glazed and fired to cone 6(2165°F). The wild clay is applied to the belly of the bottle and fired to cone 05 (1870°F). Lastly the gold gilding is hand painted and then fired to cone 018 (1268°F).
